Now that I have my first year under my belt, I wanted to take on more responsibilities at my school this year. One of the main things I wanted to do was start a rugby program to add to our growing athletic department. So I have been coaching a U-14 7's rugby team, which is nice because it is all my students so I am getting to connect with them on another level outside of the classroom. There have been some challenges though, as our school is quite small and is difficult to get adequate numbers out to the practices, then we had a few players quit, and then we lost our captain because his birthday was a few months too early. All of this before our first game. Needless to say that all the work, effort, and stress was totally worth it as I watched my players run on to the field this past Thursday to represent their school's very first rugby team. Not only did they play their very first game, but they won! Facing a school whose student body is literally four times our own, the ICS Knights were able to take home a victory. I could not be more proud of their hard work and effort. They definitely deserved the win.
